Buying Guide: Key Purchase Considerations
- Frame material: Wood, MDF, aluminum, and plastic vary in weight, durability, and appearance. Choose based on room style and wall support.
- Protection: Glass, Plexiglass, or tempered glass offer varying levels of protection and weight. Be mindful of glare for bright spaces.
- Matting compatibility: If your poster requires a mat, ensure the frame opening accommodates the larger size and mat measurements.
- Display orientation: Look for frames that support both vertical and horizontal mounting to adapt to wall space and design flow.
- Mounting ease: Spring backers, hanging hardware, and magnetic systems affect how quickly you can swap prints and rehang.
- Sizing accuracy: Verify actual mat opening sizes (commonly 10.5×16.5 for 12×18 frames) to ensure a proper fit for 11×17 or 12×18 artwork.
- Set compatibility: If you plan a gallery wall, consider a mix of frames with a uniform color and style to maintain cohesiveness.
- Maintenance: Consider frames with shatter-resistant or laminated surfaces for high-traffic areas or households with kids and pets.
Overall, for flexible display of 11×17 with a mat or 12×18 without, framing options from upsImples, Americanflat, and Joyberg offer a variety of protective materials, mounting methods, and configurations suitable for homes, classrooms, and offices. Evaluate whether you prefer glass or plexiglass protection, single frames or multi-packs, and whether magnet-based or spring-loaded mounting best fits your display routine.
